The One.Two Punch

The PTS is up, the sky is falling, my character is copied and I’m here with what everbody’s been speculating madly about – numbers.

…OK, and a little commentary.

Burn Armor: This ability has had its damage contribution from stats reduced.

  • 37% nerf (real, i.e. actual damage testing and not tooltip/delve only)
  • already barely hit hard enough against most classes you’d use it for (tanks, Marauders, melee DoKs)

Sudden Accusation: This ability has had its damage contribution from stats reduced.

  • 68% nerf (real)
  • all the keyboard turners can continue typing in /gu while on autorun; this won’t pose a threat any longer

Fanatical Zeal: This ability has had its damage contribution from stats reduced.

  • 22% nerf (real)
  • Sorcerers/Magi should already be easy targets, but this and other buffs to healers will make them much tougher marks

Trial by Pain: This ability will deal slightly more damage, and activate Blessed Bullets twice if allowed to run the full duration.

  • 25% buff (real)
  • procs bullets before first and last of the 6 shots
  • looks like they increased the base damage but lowered the scaling…? too little, too late; still worthless.

Burn Away Lies: This ability will now deal more damage.

  • 65% buff (tooltip*)
  • NOTE: I have not had the opportunity to test the real damage on this; it could be that the base has improved but scaling decreased, similar to TbP above.  …and then the server crashed, and characters were wiped, and someone else managed to get the info first ; looks like 50-60% real.
  • does away with the irony of the “burst damage” mastery tree offering less burst than the alternative harass/debuff tree
  • still calculated through Ballistics from what I can tell, despite being a melee-range ability like Burn, Heretic (which improves with Strength)

I’ll not address the various bug fixes.  If they’re accurately implemented, hurrah; if not, then nothing’s changed anyway.

The bullet nerf is unkind, to be sure, and does nothing to bridge the gap between WE kisses and our mechanic.  If anything, it widens because the newly-possible bullet crits seem dependent on the ranged critical% (which no WH in their right mind stacks) and not melee.  But the dual stat dependency dilemma is a huge issue in itself, and I won’t get started on that here.  The stealth nerf – no longer being able to sneak away when under attack, even if you disrupt/parry/dodge everything – is salt on the wound for careers with already very limited survivability and escape mechanisms.

Overall we seem to have gotten hit by a lot of crossfire in the QQ-inspired Witch Elf nerfs.  I won’t get on a soapbox yet or scream about the apocalypse as some would, but it doesn’t look pretty.

Nice entry Marq. Even though the nerfs suck, I’m pretty excited about BAL, I had a 1700 ending crit on a SH on test which was total win. Also, the Mandible of the Matron and the Wrathbringer Pistol from LV got buffed to 60 DPS, up from 55, as well as some other stat increases.

Yeah, I noticed that; wish I had either of those 😦

I do have the KotBS sword which got buffed too; might end up using that. Probably going to try some different spec stuff when this hits, anyway.

Cial, the thing is though it looks as if Mythic is forcing WH to be pigeon holed into one Mastery Line. Unfortunately it destroys diversity in the class. I would rather see them give a boast to all finishers, especially Dragon Gun.

The stealth opener nerfs makes stealth almost impractical now. The developers, ie Rob, stated that he is aware of the bullets versus kiss scaling and having to spec in ballistics but doesn’t want to discuss them. I actually think this nerf is brought on about all the Witch Elf cries from the boards and Mythic thinking to appease everyone they needed to nerf the Witch Hunter by association. In this the Witch Hunter is a victim and I believe the developers know this but will not care because they want to appease the populace and not the class.

After all we are one class, with the two new classes coming out and drawing more players they feel that they can afford to diminish one class. I watched them do this with armsmen on DAoC and pigeon holing them into pole arms and away from sword and shield spec. With the boast they gave Paladins, S/S armsmen weren’t needed any more and most became vaults.

With slayers coming on the scene they will upsurp the need for Witch Hunters since our stealth will be gimped and soon we will be just another class that the developers won’t have to think about because now Slayers will be the MDPS that everyone will want in their group.

I know I sound like a doom sayer, and I am hoping I am wrong, I really do. But my faith in Mythic right now, which was high with this game, has fallen considerably for them even considering this nerf.

I may stick it out though, and sigh, go judgment, though I really don’t want to.

Good News!!!

* The rate that Witch Hunters gain Willpower, Toughness and Ballistic Skill has been updated. Because of other changes noted below, Witch Hunters will no longer gain a large bonus to Ballistic Skill. Instead, they will get slightly more Toughness and Willpower, and much less Ballistic Skill than they currently receive. Because of this change, it was necessary to refund all Mastery and Renown points for Witch Hunters. Please make sure to visit your trainer as soon as possible after logging in to retrain your Mastery and renown points.
* Absolution: This ability will now gain bonus damage from Strength instead of Ballistic Skill.
* Trial By Pain: This ability will now gain bonus damage from Strength instead of Ballistic Skill.
* Dragon Gun: This ability will now gain bonus damage from Strength instead of Ballistic Skill.
* Exit Wound: This ability will now gain bonus damage from Strength instead of Ballistic Skill.
* Blessed Bullets of Purity: The damage done by this ability will now be Spirit damage and will be affected by resists. The damage from this will no longer gain benefit from stats and will not be able to critical hit.
* Blessed Bullets of Confession: The damage done by this ability will now be Spirit damage and will be affected by resists. The damage from this will no longer gain benefit from stats and will not be able to critical hit.
* Blessed Bullets of Cleansing: The damage done by this ability will now be Spirit damage and will be affected by resists. The damage from this will no longer gain benefit from stats and will not be able to critical hit.
* Burn Armor: The damage of this ability has been increased slightly, and has been set to Spirit. The damage from this will no longer gain benefit from stats, and will not be able to critical hit.
* Sudden Accusation: The damage of this ability has been increased slightly, and has been set to Spirit. The damage from this will no longer gain benefit from stats and will not be able to critical hit.
* Fanatical Zeal: The damage of this ability has been increased slightly and has been set to Spirit. The damage from this will no longer gain benefit from stats and will not be able to critical hit.
* Encourage Confession: The extra damage given to Blessed Bullets of Confession by this tactic has been increased and will now do Spirit damage.
